Destiny achieved sales of more than US$325 million to consumers in the five days following its release, says publisher Activision.
Activision reportedly spent US$500m getting Destiny on to shelves. The day after release, the publisher announced that more than US$500m worth of Bungie’s sci-fi shooter had been sold-in to retailers and first-parties (Microsoft and Sony).
On the strength of these sell-through figures, Activision has now declared that Destiny is the best selling new game franchise of all time. The publisher had previously announced that Destiny was the most preordered new franchise of all time.
Destiny launched last Monday for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4.
Over the same five day period, players logged over 100 million hours and participated in 137 million activities.
