Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag’s first story-based DLC, Freedom Cry, is out next week, Ubisoft has announced.

The DLC will be available on December 17 on Xbox 360 and Xbox One, and December 19 on PlayStation 3 and 4.

Freedom Cry is a nine-mission self-contained story featuring Edward Kenway’s first mate Adewale. Born a slave, Adewale found freedom as a pirate aboard the Jackdaw as captain Edward Kenway’s second-in-command. Fifteen years later, Adewale has become a trained assassin and finds himself shipwrecked in Saint-Domingue with no weapon nor crew, starting a new adventure of his own.

It is part of the game’s Season Pass.

In related news, the franchise’s latest mobile tie-in, Assassin’s Creed Pirates, is now available for iDevices for NZ$6.49 and Android for NZ$7.36.

According to Ubisoft: “The year is 1716, the dawn of the Golden Age of piracy in the Caribbean. Players take on the role of Alonzo Batilla, a young and ambitious Captain who is embarking on an epic quest to find La Buse’s legendary treasure.

“Along his way Alonzo will cross paths with famous buccaneers including Blackbeard, Bellamy and Hornigold and find himself caught in the middle of the ancestral fight between Assassins and Templars.”

Developed by Ubisoft Paris Pirates tasks players with managing a crew, upgrading their ship, and engaging in real-time naval battles in order to become the most feared pirate in the Caribbean.
