Bungie has announced that the beta of Halo: Reach has been extended by a day. Bungie’s Brian Jarrad told Joystiq “Our official plans as of now are to turn off the Reach beta on Thursday, 5/20 at 10AM PDT.”

The beta appears to have been a success for Bungie: More people logged on to play the Reach beta in the first day of testing than during the entire testing phase for Halo 3. More than 12.5 million matches have been played.
