Saints Row 4 will be out this August, according to a tweet from the original game’s design director.
Chris Stockman tweeted that "the word around the campfire is SR4 is shipping on current gen consoles in late August”.
“Just for the record it was announced last year that a new SR was coming this year,” he continued.
“Wouldn't it make common sense they would want to release the game before the craziness that will be the console releases? I didn't reveal some big secret.”
“PR should be ratcheting up fairly soon.”
Following those tweets, Koch Media’s video game label Deep Silver told IGN that it was still working on timing with Volition, and that it hasn't announced platforms yet.
Last June, THQ announced that “huge” Saints Row The Third expansion Enter the Dominatrix would be assimilated into Saints Row 4, so it’s entirely plausible that the game is near completion.
“When it comes to Saints Row, it’s clear our fans want bigger, better, and even more over the top, and that’s why Enter The Dominatrix will now be incorporated into a vastly expanded, full-fledged sequel, scheduled for calendar 2013,” said former THQ President Jason Rubin at the time.
Another reason an August release makes sense: it would give the open world game a one month head start on rival Grand Theft Auto V.
