Disney Interactive has officially unveiled its most ambitious gaming initiative ever, Disney Infinity.

Infinity allows players to experience original adventures in Disney and Pixar worlds, and also to build their own worlds using the power of their imagination, said the company.

Much like Activision’s Skylanders, Infinity integrates collectible character figures that come to life in the game when placed on a special base.

Throughout each story-driven experience or “Play Set”, players will solve puzzles, battle enemies, and explore iconic locations from famous Disney properties, while collecting unique characters, vehicles, and gadgets from each world and saving them to a virtual Toy Box.

Players can also access their Toy Box to build and customise their own unique virtual world using their favourite characters, vehicles, settings and accessories. They may then share their creations with friends.

The game's structured adventures support two player co-op, and its Toy Box mode supports up to four.

The Disney Infinity launch will initially include 40 collectible interactive pieces, 17 character figures, the Disney Infinity Base, and Disney Infinity Power Discs – interactive discs that can be placed on the Infinity base to augment characters and the Toy Box with unique powers, customisations and gadgets.

The Infinity game universe will launch in June on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, Wii U, and PC, and will have a phased roll out across mobile and online devices throughout 2013.
