Two pieces of story DLC are on the way for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

The first story DLC pack is called Jetstream, and will feature a side story with cyborg samurai Sam as a playable character.

The second story DLC pack, Blade Wolf, will put players in control of Raiden's pet wolf as he goes on a side quest of his own.

As if it weren't clear by the title, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance indulges the ridiculous. This entry into the now-hallowed franchise is one of the very best.

For a series that has ruminated at length on the significance of legacies, Metal Gear Solid has quite the legacy of its own nowadays. With the original regarded by many as one of the greatest games of the PlayStation 1 era, each successive title in the series has been met with great fanfare and, more often than not, critical acclaim.

But it seems that for every diehard fan that loves the stealthy action, well-choreographed boss battles and completely nutso story, there is a dissenting voice complaining about neverending cutscenes, unintuitive controls and, well, the completely nutso story. As a spinoff, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance does its best to distance itself from these weighty expectations by striking out in a totally new direction – all-out action.

The release of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance in Australia and New Zealand has been pushed back a few days.

The game was due out tomorrow, but now won’t be available until February 26.

A last minute shipping delay was responsible for the wait, said distributor Mindscape.

Konami subsidiary Kojima Productions is keen to team up with Platinum Games for a Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance sequel, the developer says.

“If people like Metal Gear Rising, if the fans who play this game ask for more, that would be awesome,” Revengeance producer Yuji Korekado told Eurogamer.

“That would be great for us and we would be happy to consider working on another game in Metal Gear Rising.”

Stealth mechanics were added to Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance because the game would have been one-note without them, says Platinum Games.

MGS: Revengeance won't be released on Xbox in Japan

The Xbox 360 version of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will not see a Japanese Xbox 360 release, Konami Japan has announced.

Citing “various reasons” as the culprit for the cancellation, the company apologised to fans while reiterating that a PlayStation 3 version would still be on the way.

Microsoft’s flagship console has always struggled in Japan, with sales of around 115,000 units last year. By contrast, Sony sold over 1,500,000 units of the PlayStation 3 during the same period.
