The anonymous writer of a Tumblr blog that first appeared over the weekend said that the atmosphere at Crytek’s Frankfurt offices was such that staff felt compelled to “jump ship” to other development studios or were unlawfully fired.

“Several ex-Crytek employees have already been successful in mounting legal battles and won settlements, yet Crytek still treat staff as disposable pieces of meat to be discarded at will,” reads the blog. “We fully understand that a games company needs to make a profit, and this site isn’t going against the great work that the current employees have made in the past or are currently working on.”

However, EA has now stated that the decision to remove Crysis 2 was made by Steam operator Valve.

Crysis 2 was in violation of a new set of regulations handed down by Valve, says the publisher.

With the press of a button you can turn invisible, beef up your armour tenfold, run and jump like a gazelle, or any combination of the above save armour and stealth. The only check on your use of these powers is a recharging energy bar which drops when hit by enemy fire, or when you are actively using a power.

Recognized worldwide for his work on films such as “Inception” and “The Dark Knight”, Zimmer and his team worked with the existing composers Borislav Slavov and Tilman Sillescu to create the score for Crysis 2, seting the tone for the game’s backdrop of a devastated New York City in 2023.

“I was drawn to Crysis 2 because of Crytek’s passion for the project and the world they created,” said Hans Zimmer. “And I am very happy with the outcome of our collaboration.”

The Crysis 2 multiplayer demo gives players the chance to compete in six vs. six matches set in two maps: “Skyline”, and “Pier 17”.

The demo also features two modes: “Team Instant Action” pits two teams against each other as they kill as many opponents as possible to win the round and “Crash Site,” where players can battle for control of alien drop pods, earning points by guarding their pods and keeping enemies at bay.

If you want to pose an uncomfortable question to a member of Microsoft’s Xbox team, ask them what they would most like the Xbox 360 to be remembered for: Gears of War or Kinect. On the one hand, Epic’s third-person shooter series has not only managed to sustain the machine’s relevance to a bevy of core gamers, it has also provided something of a developmental road map beyond Halo. On the other, the company wants the machine to pull in families whose gaming sensibilities are more likely to be informed by Farmville than Fenix.

Such is the tightrope Microsoft walks when pitching the Xbox 360 in 2011. Its Xbox Showcase event in San Francisco on Friday (NZDT) erred more on the gamer side of the equation – but not by much.

EA’s media briefing at the historic Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles kicked off with the announcement of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. Dated for November 16th, the Criterion-developed title hopes to simultaneously bring the series back to its roots and pave the way for adoption by the so-called “connected generation.”

In it, players compete online, chasing one another as either the police or as renegade mavericks driving outrageously expensive cars. Criterion highlighted Hot Pursuit’s Autolog – a suite of features “to connect, compare and compete.”
