Eidos’ Ian Livingstone has told website Eurogamer that the studio is not done with murderous duo Kane and Lynch.

The original game, subtitled Dead Men, and its sequel, Dog Days, both received mixed reviews from critics but performed satisfactorily at retail.

In the interview, Livingstone said, “We haven’t made any announcements about Kane & Lynch going forward, but we all know that Kane and Lynch are two amazing characters who have a lot of brand equity.

A new trailer has been released for Atari's Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days. The game is due for release this Thursday 19 August in New Zealand.

We don’t have a water cooler at Gameplanet and until now that hasn’t been a problem. Whether “Dan from Editorial” and “Simon from Management” are finally going to “hook up at this weekend’s team-building retreat” is a question that, frankly, we have little interest in exploring.

That all changed this week with the arrival of a courier envelope concealing preview code for Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days. Since it turned up, there has been an overwhelming sense of bewilderment and dejection that we have no time-honoured place to congregate and gossip. Instead, we’re forced to speculate on the scene at videogame site Giant Bomb from the comfort of our sofa, parked in front of a plasma TV. It’s unnatural.

The original Kane & Lynch was an unremarkable game, chiefly remembered now for the scandal that followed Jeff Gerstmann’s review of the title on GameSpot. At that time publisher Eidos had made a significant advertising investment on GameSpot to promote Kane & Lynch. Gerstmann, then the site’s editorial director, scored the game 6/10 in his review, writing, “When you consider the nearly ridiculous number of extremely high-quality shooters available recently, there's not much room for something like Kane & Lynch.”

In this video from Kane & Lynch 2, we learn not to make Lynch angry. In fact, try not to make any sudden movements whatsoever when he is in your proximity. He may be an old dog, but he's got new tricks and the same vicious bite.

Square Enix has announced that a demo for Kane & Lynch 2 is now available for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Additionally, Valve has confirmed that the PC version of Kane & Lynch 2 will ship with SteamWorks: auto-updating, leaderboards, Steam achievements and statistics.

The full title will be released on the 19th of August.

Square Enix Europe has confirmed that Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days has gone gold and will now release one week earlier than previously scheduled on August 19 in New Zealand. In addition, they've released this new multiplayer trailer.

IO Interactive has confirmed that Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days will release on August 27 in Australia and New Zealand for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. In addition, they've released this trailer, which was nice of them.
