The Wii U has reached ten million units sold, according to Nintendo's Q1 fiscal report.

Though an important milestone, it comes despite sales of the console dropping year-on-year from 510,000 last Q1 to 470,000.

Nintendo was buoyed, however, by stronger than expected sales of third-person multiplayer shooter Splatoon, which has now sold 1.62 million copies, and the continued success of its Amiibo figurines.

3DS hardware, by far the company's strongest platform, sold 1.01 million units this quarter, up from 820,000 year-on-year.

Overall, the company earned 90.2 billion yen in revenue, netting a profit of 8.3 billion yen - again, down slightly from last year.

Nintendo has a packed lineup of titles slated for Q2 2015, including new entries in the Animal Crossing, Zelda, Metroid, and Pokemon franchises on the 3DS, and Yoshi's Woolly World and Super Mario Maker on the Wii U, as well as new Amiibo.
