An Aussie moon rises in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Q: Borderlands and Borderlands 2 were both developed at Gearbox. How did 2K Australia come to develop Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel?

Jono Pelling: It was kind of organic. We’d finished up on BioShock Infinite, and we were figuring out what we were going to do next. Gearbox was keen to make more Borderlands, people started talking to each other, and we got the idea to do something for it – thinking about what that might be. It was a conversation and collaboration between Gearbox, 2K headquarters, and us. It was very much an emergent idea.

Q: The game is set between the original Borderlands and its sequel, Borderlands 2. Was that an idea that was brought to you, or was that an idea that you developed internally and pitched to others?

COD: Advanced Warfare preorders 50% down on COD: Ghosts – analyst Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare preorders are 50 percent behind those of last year’s Ghosts, according to a market research firm.

That puts preorders a whopping 80 percent behind those of 2012’s Black Ops II.

“We believe that the preorders need to accelerate significantly over the next few weeks, or else the evidence for meaningfully weaker performance by Advanced Warfare vs. Ghosts will, in our opinion, become too strong to rationalise,” said Cowen and Company analyst Doug Cruetz.

Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes review If you can handle the rough and ready and are focused squarely on making your own content, there’s something in here for you. If not, ignore Infinity 2.0 and hope Avalanche iron out the kinks for next year’s release.

Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes (AKA Infinity 2.0) proclaims its legacy and sales pitch right there in the title, and it’s a good thing too. After last year’s middling debut, the evergreen and ever-expanding company needed to step up with this latest iteration if it was to be a serious challenger for best toy/game combo of them all. This is especially true given Nintendo is entering the fray later this year with its Amiibo products.

The stars of Infinity 2.0 are the Avengers, and expansion sets available out of the gate include scenarios based around Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as one focussed on the exploits of everyone’s favourite web slinger, Spider-Man.

Placing one of your real-world Disney Infinity toys on the included ‘Infinity Base’ makes that character appear in the game, and you then have full control over their arsenal of moves. Infinity features an action-RPG style levelling system through which players can choose how each and every one of their plastic pals develop, and any progression is stored in the toy itself for easy transportation between games and consoles, which is neat.

Danganronpa 2 review Building off Super Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc's absurdist murder mystery base, Danganronpa 2 marries the series' strong crime-solving mechanics with a bizarre, hilarious dayglo nightmare well beyond the craziness of the original.

There's an adage along the lines of 'you shouldn't say in ten words what you can say in one'. As a writer, it's a good way to test your work: is your exposition clear and brief? Does the action keep a good pace? How's your dialogue's rhythm?

I wish whoever localised Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair had run that test (it definitely sounds and reads like the fault is with translators pushing for 'fidelity' - the way the script avoids contractions is evidence enough). Characters regularly repeat themselves; trials double back to drive home things that have already been established; tutorials are verbose and difficult to follow. Take a look at exhibit A, perpetually-frustrated protagonist Hajime Hinata. He has a habit of repeating what others say. His self-pitying internal monologues get caught in ruts, almost like he's thinking in mantras. At one point, he stands in front of a red door and asks himself "Is this the door?" three times. In a row.

Wasteland 2 review In Wasteland 2, InXile has a classical RPG that will vindicate its early supporters on Kickstarter.

When you live in the post-nuclear-apocalyptic wasteland of Arizona, life is tough. Most of the trappings of civilisation are gone; violence is rife; rabbits are now large, angry carnivores (thanks for that, radiation). It’s hard to keep it together. So when two towns nominally under your protection as are simultaneously attacked, you know you have to make a hard call: as you can only save one, which one will you choose? Oh, by the way, one of the towns produces most of the food the wastelanders eat, and the other one produces most of the water they drink. Pick.

Welcome to Kickstarter success story Wasteland 2, inXile’s 20-plus-years-later sequel to the original seminal RPG. The game demands players make these tough choices as a member of the Desert Rangers, a group that the delightfully throwback opening cinematic (live video! Actors in costumes!) explains is essentially the last pseudo military/law enforcement agency remaining after The Bomb, striving to protect what’s left.

Game thefts and unwanted booth babes mar an otherwise successful Digital Nationz Game and gadget expo Digital Nationz went extremely well despite a theft and a rule-breaking exhibitor, says event manager Peter Hall.

The theft from the exhibit – the contents of which were provided by private collectors – was “absolutely despicable…atrocious”, said Hall.
