Ubisoft has announced that it will release a new Assassin’s Creed in 2011, backpedalling on suggestions that the franchise would be rested this year.

The news comes via an investor’s call in which CEO Yves Gillemot said, “There will be something around Assassin's [next year]. That's all we can say," (via Eurogamer).

As to the game’s content, CFO Alain Martinez said nothing would be discussed before the new year: “Maybe after Christmas in January we'll be able to talk about what kind of product we have.”

 

Ubisoft have confirmed that the second downloadable content pack for Assassin’s Creed II, titled the Bonfire of the Vanities, will be available on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network tomorrow.

Vanities sees Ezio in a new section of Florence, now under the tyrannical yoke of the monk Saconarola. Using a new move, the spring-jump, Ezio will assist Machiavelli in liberating the city in ten new sequences.

 

The first of the highly anticipated downloadable content packs for Assassin’s Creed II, the Battle of Forli, will become available on Thursday for USD$4 on the PlayStation Network, or 320 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live.

The Battle of Forli will see Ezio both thwarting a Templar plot to secure a Piece of Eden and coming to the aid of Caterina Sforza and Niccolo Machiavelli as they defend the city from the Orsi brothers. In the process, Ezio will take another spin on Da Vinci’s flying machine.

 

Ubisoft have detailed their two recently announced pieces of downloadable content for Assassin’s Creed II: The Bonfire of the Vanities and the Battle of Forli.

Both pieces of DLC take place within the two years of “corrupted” DNA, sequences 12 and 13, years that are glossed over in the game.

 

Ubisoft have announced that the first downloadable content for Assassin's Creed II will arrive in Jan 2010, followed by the second release in Feb 2010.

The DLC packages are entitled "Battle of Forli" and "Bonfire of the Vanities", and in order to play them you must own a copy of the game for PS3 or Xbox 360, have an Internet connection to download the additional content and a minimum of 1.0 GB of space available for each DLC. More information will be available closer to the launch date.

 

Ubisoft have announced today that Assassin’s Creed II is selling 32% faster than its predecessor and estimates that it has been purchased by 1.6 million people worldwide.

The original Assassin’s Creed was the fastest selling new intellectual property in US gaming history.

For this sequel you play as Ezio during the Renaissance in Venice, Italy. Yesterday, I was shown a quick demo with a short hands-on time by Patrice Desilets (Creative Director) and so far I am still a bit on the fence for this one. First, let me make clear that from what I played it is obvious that Ubisoft Montreal have once again crafted a beautiful and fully explorable world for you to run around in, and all the things that made the first game as ground breaking as it was are still there.

The only reason I remain on the fence is that I am still not sure if the game will be less repetitive than the last one. To be fair, there is no way for me to really know this without getting a few good hours with the game as opposed to the fifteen or so minutes I had.
