The "inFAMOUS free running team" will be at Aotea Square in Auckland this Saturday, for a promotional event to celebrate the launch of PS3-exclusive inFAMOUS, Sony Computer Entertainment NZ has announced.

Free running is a style of urban acrobatics, derived from parkour - it is the practice of freedom of movement and creativity with the aim of moving from one point to another as smoothly, efficiently and quickly as possible.

Cole, the main character in inFAMOUS, has the ability to free run, and Sony's team of athletes will be bringing Cole's super-human abilities to life. "Think flips, kicks, jumps and spins, these guys are the real deal!" the Sony announcement exclaims.

From the creators of the award-winning Sly Cooper series, Sucker Punch brings you inFAMOUS, the first open-world action-adventure title exclusively for the PS3.

Cole, an everyday guy, sets out to deliver a package in the downtown area of Empire City. Present at the scene of a devastating explosion that rocks Empire City, he barely manages to survive the event. As riots erupt in the aftermath, the city collapses into chaos and becomes overrun by powerful criminals. The city is quarantined from the mainland, and television broadcasts link Cole to the scene of the crime. Cole is now a wanted man, but he’s also wielding extraordinary powers as a result of the explosion.

 

For those that don't know, inFamous is all about Cole, a courier in Empire city.

On a routine delivery, Cole ends up delivering a bomb that explodes and grants him electricity based super powers (yay) but also wipes out a large chunk of Empire city (boo) throwing it into chaos (yay again). Surviving the explosion by playing dead for two weeks, Cole wakes to find that he is now the protagonist in Sucker Punch Production's new sandbox game.

The demo code we received last week was my first taste of the game, and while the four different areas available weren't long enough to begin forming much of an opinion about the tasks that will propel most of the game, what I was able to have a fairly good crack at was exploring the city scape and seeing what Cole could do.
