Army of Two: 40th Day DLC drops

EA Montreal has announced that the downloadable content pack for Army of Two: The 40th Day is now available on Xbox LIVE. Titled the Chapters of Deceit, fist-bumping frat mercs Rios and Salem will stumble across new information that could put an end to the Jonah’s 40th Day Initiative.

The downloadable content will be available on the PlayStation Network on the 1st of April.

Gameplanet scored Army of Two: The 40th Day 7/10, highlighting the sequel’s vastly improved AI, but lamenting the campaign’s brevity – campaign DLC sounds like a good thing on paper, then.

Army of Two: The 40th Day dated

EA Montreal today announced Army of Two: The 40th Day will ship on January 12, 2010 in North America and January 8, 2010 in Europe.

The sequel to the 2008 co-op shooter sees the return of the two-man private military team, Salem and Rios. Trapped in the middle of Shanghai as it falls under attack, the two must work as a team to survive enemy assaults and escape the city collapsing around them. Gamers who pre-order Army of Two: The 40th Day will have exclusive access to the game’s new multi-player mode, ‘Extraction,’ at launch. This mode will be unlocked for all other players one month after the game ships.

Army of Two: The 40th Day features a redesigned multiplayer with four multiplayer modes including ‘Extraction’. ‘Extraction’ pits a team of four players against a series of enemy waves as they move from point to point in the ruined city. Players must strategize as a unified team to combat the different forces of the 40th Day Initiative while trying to get out alive.

Army of Two: The 40th Day

Heading into one of EA's custom built, air-conditioned booths over in the South wing of the Convention Centre was a great relief to me. The thunderous booming of EA's constant promotional videos had started to take its toll. Inside the cool, quiet, private booth we were shown a game which I had no real anticipation for - Army of Two: The 40th Day. Perhaps stifled by the lacklustre (albeit hilarious) original, my internal hype machine was idle. Two developers presented the game to a small group of us, across two enormous LCD screens.

Stressing the focus on the relationship between both onscreen characters and real life buddies, AoT is geared towards true co-operative gameplay. Scoring and achievements are spread equally across both players, so acting as a real team will be mutually beneficial.

Players' actions within the game will affect a virtual currency, influencing your access to bigger and better weapons. We were shown an example of a choice being presented, to kill an innocent security guard in order to steal weapons, or let him live and leave empty handed. Of course, the audience voted for the kill. A key gameplay dynamic will be instant gratification versus long term reward, with the currency system at its core.
