Capcom has responded to suggestions that it’s alienating PlayStation 3 owners by making both the downloadable prologue and epilogue to Dead Rising 2 exclusive to Xbox 360.
Dead Rising 2: Case Zero, a prologue to the multiplatform release of Dead Rising 2, was released on Xbox LIVE Arcade earlier this month and quickly broke sales records.
Last week, Capcom announced Dead Rising: Case West at the Tokyo Game Show, an epilogue to the main game and also exclusive to Xbox 360.
This perceived favouritism has raised the ire of many who intend to play the game on PlayStation 3 but co-producer Shinsaku Ohara says that the additional downloadable content is a present to the game’s longstanding fanbase on Xbox 360 – the only platform the original Dead Rising was released on.
Speak with Eurogamer, Ohara said, “I think [Keiji] Inafune said that we’re sorry that it seems like you’re getting a little bit less of the Dead Rising 2 universe, but you’ll still be able to enjoy the full game.
“You’ll just miss a little bit of extra. We haven’t completely alienated PS3 gamers because Dead Rising 2 is a standalone boxed product.
“At the beginning we didn’t know that this new IP would be a success, but the fans on the console really assisted in making it into one.
“So it’s like a present, something that we gave back to the original Dead Rising fans.”
Dead Rising 2 will be released tomorrow. It's also coming out on PC but there's been nary a whimper from those quarters regarding 360 exclusivity.
