FaceBreaker PS3

Review

It has a refreshing visual style and looks fun to start with, but FaceBreaker is let down by frustrating and shallow gameplay.

FaceBreaker

PS3 E3: HANDS ON by Melanie Phelan 22 Jul 2008, 5:00 pm

FaceBreaker

I have always loved to sit around with friends, maybe share a few beverages and duel to the death.

All styles of fighting game had their own unique appeal; Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, King of Fighters, Def Jam Vendetta or Ready to Rumble Boxing - all these fighting games have been successful in one thing, bringing people together to gloat, battle and ridicule each other all in the name of good fun.

EA’s newest arcade-style boxing game, FaceBreaker, capitalises on the essence of a fighting game in a number of ways and runs with it, adding more dimension though increased interactivity. From the use of fun characters, a simple yet skillful control system, to the addition of customisable play, FaceBreaker is set to make an impact when it hits kiwi shelves on September 5th.

E3: New FaceBreaker screens shown

Electronic Arts have released a bunch of screenshots for FaceBreaker on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, as well as a new Wii version, FaceBreaker K.O. Party.

In this in-your-face, arcade world full of ego-wielding characters, each boxer comes to life with unique attributes and distinct personal style. Pit Romeo, a Latin lover known for his pelvic thrusts, against Molotov, an oversized Russian demolitions expert with a penchant for fighting dirty, to see how Romeo's back-handed slaps fare against Molotov's illegal use of explosives. Add a little personal motivation to your fight by uploading a photo of your face to create a realistic likeness using Photo Game Face, and go toe-to-toe with a real-life friend or foe.

Following the total domination of your rival, mount their head onto the wall of your virtual trophy room where you can relive your conquest over and over again. Every time you clobber someone in the ring, you earn their head for your collection. Go on a head-hunting mission to assemble your own army of pugilists. Then upload a clip of your clash to extend their humiliation.
