Bungie won't soon forget its accomplishments with Halo, but says that working on Destiny has been "liberating" for everyone at the studio.

Speaking with USA Today, Bungie community manager David “Deej” Dague said, "We’ll never turn a blind eye to the accomplishments that come with Halo at Bungie, but as creators, as artists, as people with imaginations for how games can be new and different, and exciting, it was pretty liberating, actually, to start with a blank canvas and say, ‘What sort of story do we want to tell now?’"

Dague added that the move away from Halo was especially popular with staff who had "had kept their imaginations rooted" in that universe.

Destiny was released on last Tuesday Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4.

Activision reportedly spent US$500m getting the game on to shelves, but it has already made that back.
