New Shadow Of The Tomb Raider DLC coming next week

The latest DLC for Shadow of the Tomb Raider, titled The Pillar is releasing next week and will see players "venture into the Path of the Huracan to discover the truth behind the legend of the Maya apocalypse".

We thought Shadow of the Tomb Raider was a bit of a step back for the series and in our review said that "the finale to this trilogy is dragged down into the mud by the failings of its narrative and the depictions of its once celebrated character". It's nonetheless nice to see Eidos Montreal still supporting the game with additional content.

Check out the video below for an in-depth look at the making of The Pillar and a look at what players can expect from the DLC.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider Review

In 2013, Crystal Dynamics presented a Lara Croft grounded in interesting psychology for the first time and setup the beginning of an arc for the character which could have taken this franchise to new heights. But now, with the final entry in this chapter, new developer Eidos Montreal have unfortunately plummeted this journey to new depths instead. In this logically inconsistent entry into the trilogy, we are presented with an unlikable Lara in a story-line which cannot meld its own premise with the actions of its characters. Though the games mechanics remain familiar and fun, the finale to this trilogy is dragged down into the mud by the failings of its narrative and the depictions of its once celebrated character.

In 2013 we began a new journey with Lara Croft. After decades of being little more than a rock-climbing, sex symbol for horny teenage boys, Crystal Dynamics presented Lara for the first time as a real person. This was framed as the start of a trilogy that would show the emotional and psychological journey that would lead her to becoming the Tomb Raider.

This adventure started strong, with a brilliant snapshot scenario in which an un-initiated Lara had to overcome the physical and psychological barriers necessary for her to survive. It was followed by an entry that, though convoluted and missing the focus of the first game, did a good job at presenting the psychological drive instilled by her father and the larger threat of the Trinity organisation.
