Smite is getting its first PvE content this week

Previously multiplayer-only MOBA Smite will see its first player-vs-environment content drop in the imminent patch 3.17, says developer Hi-Rez Studios.

Dubbed "Xing Tian's Mountain," the mode pits up to five players against increasingly difficult waves of enemies and bosses.

Each wave must be cleared in one minute, after which cooldowns, health, and mana are restored, and a new, tougher wave begins.

The OPL Smite Split 2 grand finals saw a major upset over the weekend, when fourth seeded Avant Garde unexpectedly took out first place.

The team defeated top seed Legacy E-sports, followed by reigning champions Pandamonium.

The Cybergamer's Oceania E-sports Masters LAN took place at the Australia Technology Park in Sydney.

Hi-Rez Expo to feature Smite World Champs, Paladins debut

Developer Hi-Rez today announced the Hi-Rez Expo, an all-new event to host tournaments of the studio's competitive games.

HRX 2017 will encompass the Smite World Championships, the PC component of which boasts a prize pool of US$1m. An Xbox championship will make its debut, and its prize pool will total US$150,000.

Both tournaments will feature contenders from Australia and New Zealand – players qualify via the Oceania Pro League 2016 Season, a league that offers an AU$100,000 prize pool.

Smite unleashes wrath of gods upon PlayStation 4

Smite is set to release on the PlayStation 4, bringing its major platform count to three.

The mythologically-themed, free-to-play, third-person MOBA started on PC in 2013, and was brought to Xbox One last year.

Hi-Rez Studios has been ambitious with Smite, pushing it onto the eSports as a competitor to the seemingly indomitable reigning champ League of Legends and accumulating 14 million players to date.
