Polyphony CEO Kazunori Yamauchi has said the newly released Gran Turismo 5 will receive an update on Sunday NZDT that will address the game’s crippled online component.

Speaking with website Eurogamer, Kazunori said, “We received a lot of demands for having more regulations placed on the online play. We're going to perform an update on the 27th that will include things like max power restrictions and weight restrictions.

“It's like a living creature, dynamically growing as we speak.”

Kazunori noted that the game’s data centre was set up to manage (a paltry) 500,000 simultaneous connections and (unsurprisingly) the number of connections it received yesterday greatly exceeded its capacity.

Gran Turismo 5’s online woes are also impacting on the singleplayer experience as the game is constantly relaying player information to the data centre.

Sony proffers the following temporary solution: Disconnect your PlayStation 3 from the internet.

Kazunori also confirmed to the website that features not currently included in multiplayer – such as leaderboards and matchmaking – would be added in the future: “Online updates are planned of course for leaderboards and matchmaking - [they're] all planned in the process of evolution.”
