Homefront developer THQ has responded to North Korea’s attack on South Korea on Tuesday. The exchange, the largest of its kind since the truce that ended the Korean War in 1953, saw the North fire approximately 100 shells at Yeonpyeong Island, a disputed territory.
In the attack two South Korean soldiers were killed and 17 were injured. Three civilians were hurt and the island has been evacuated.
In response, the South returned fire, sent fighter jets into the area and has since promised “enormous retaliation” if the North continues to show aggression.
THQ’s Homefront is set in 2027 and proposes that an ascendant North Korea sparks the third world war in a fashion that echoes current headlines. Watch the game’s trailer below.
In a statement to website Eurogamer, THQ writes, “Homefront is a work of speculative fiction, set in the year 2027. Recent real-world events on the Korean peninsula are obviously tragic and, like everyone, we hope for a swift and peaceful resolution.”
Homefront is scheduled for release in March next year.
