Dragon Age producer: 30 frames a second is suitable for some games

Dragon Age: Inquisition producer Aaryn Flynn believes that 30 frames per second can be better in some situations than the generally-accepted holy grail of 60.

Inquisition’s frame rate has not yet been announced, although earlier this week it was revealed that it will run at 900p on Xbox One and 1080p on PlayStation 4.

“For me, to move to 60 fps, very crudely, you’re halving the amount of time you have to render anything,” Flynn told VentureBeat,

“Something has to be given up to achieve 60. For the right game that may be the thing you have to do.”

Beyond aiming for the best frame rate for the type of game you’re making, a steady frame rate is the most important thing, said Flynn.

Class action lawsuit over Battlefield 4 launch fails

A class action lawsuit accusing EA of misleading investors over Battlefield 4 has been dismissed by a federal judge in the US.

Last December, San Francisco law firm Robbins, Geller, Rudman, and Dowd filed a complaint against EA on behalf of anyone who bought EA stock between July 24 and December 4.

The suit claimed EA executives withheld information about pre-launch issues with Battlefield 4 from shareholders.

The GTA V beta is a lie

Rockstar has warned fans that invitations to participate in a Grand Theft Auto V beta for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC are fake.

The problem appears to have got far enough out of control that the developer has set up a dedicated page warning players against what it believes to be a phishing scam.

"Please Note: There is no pre-release ‘beta’ test for Grand Theft Auto V," reads the site. "If you see ads or solicitations to join a beta program, beware as this is likely some type of online phishing scam."

There will be no quick-scoping in COD: Advanced Warfare

There will be no quick-scoping in COD: Advanced Warfare

Sledgehammer Games' Michael Condrey has said there will be no quick-scoping in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

Speaking with 3 News, Condrey said Sledgehammer had worked to reduce the aim assist that some Call of Duty snipers exploited by quick-scoping in competitive multiplayer.

"Let me put it this way, sniper classes are not going to be overpowered relative to their peers," Condrey said. "The ability to master a sniper rifle and be great at it will be equal to the ability to master any other class.

"We’ve done some things to make sure snipers are not able to take advantage of their properties – for example, there are attachments based on weapon classes that are specific. The ability to quick-draw with an assault rifle is important, but you don’t want to have the ability to quick-draw with a sniper rifle because that lends itself to being a faster, quick-scope model.

"We spent a lot of time trying to focus on it so I think sniper class players will find that it’s a really rewarding experience, but it won’t be over-powered relative to their peers."

Bungie outlines changes coming to Destiny's Vault of Glass

Bungie outlines changes coming to Destiny's Vault of Glass

Bungie is planning changes to Destiny's ultimate PvE encounter, which will make the experience more challenging.

The final boss in Destiny's first Raid is called Atheon. In the final phase of the encounter Atheon teleports the three players furthest from it into secondary areas on Venus and Mars. The most common strategy employed by raiders is for three select players to ensure they're the furthest from the boss when it uses its "Timestream" teleporting ability.

"The encounter goal for Atheon is to act as a climax and the culmination of learning for a given Raid group," said Bungie community manager David "DeeJ" Dague. "Part of that is making sure that each player in your group can perform every job as required.

The publisher said the game’s release has been pushed back so further polish can be applied, but also to give it a release date that “allows the game the greatest chance of success and visibility”.

Project Cars is in development at Slightly Mad Studios, and was due out on November 21 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with a Wii U version pegged for 2015.

EA's FIFA series sees massive growth in the local market

Soccer may not be our national sport, but when it comes to sporting videogames it appears that EA's FIFA series suffers no rivals.

Not only did FIFA 15 debut at number one on NPD Group's New Zealand retail charts, but EA has today announced that sales in Australia and New Zealand are up 62.75 percent over last year's FIFA 14.

An EA spokesperson told MCVPacific that the game's success was due to the series' "player-first approach".

Bungie addresses Iron Banner confusion, releases new Destiny stats

Destiny has been out for a month, which is long enough for Bungie to have compiled some reliable data on how players are interacting with the game.

Approximately 3.2 million people play Destiny every day, said Bungie in its latest Destiny Weekly Update. The developer said that on average, players play close to three hours per day.

"Players are logging more hours per day then any game we have ever made, our servers have withstood millions of guardians experiencing Destiny and none of it would have been possible without our amazing community," said Bungie COO Pete Parsons.

Bungie added that the average player plays Destiny 1.8 times a day, and has logged on 20.9 times since launch.

Destiny has had more players online than during the same span for Halo 3 and Halo: Reach, combined, said Bungie.
