Harmonix on Rock Band and Dance Central: "We have grand plans to bring back both"

Harmonix’s Rock Band and Dance Central franchises may not be dead and buried after all.

Last weekend, as reported by Gamespot, Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos told a PAX East crowd that his company hoped to bring both to new-gen consoles.

"[The Rock Band and Dance Central franchises] are near and dear to our hearts and our minds, and we have grand plans to bring back both of them with guns blazing at some point in the coming console cycle," said Rigopulos.

Rock Band DLC support to end this April

Following a final batch in April, there will be no further DLC for the Rock Band franchise, Harmonix has announced.

The company has released an amazing 275 consecutive weeks of DLC, growing its Rock Band song selection to more than 4,000 in the process.

“We’re incredibly proud of the DLC milestones we’ve set, especially producing the largest music library of any game available, and we wouldn’t have been able to release as much outstanding content without the support of our amazing community,” said Harmonix.

Rock Band 3 review

We have all read about - even been witness to - the slow decline of the rhythm game genre. Frequently blamed for exacerbating the decline of such titles is the often steep monetary investment in necessary peripherals.

Year after year content and games have been released to luke-warm responses and many have speculated that the time of the rhythm game was at an end. Even here we’ve wondered aloud whether the next instalments would replace the drum kit with a dead horse.

Colour me surprised to discover that Harmonix, creator of the Rock Band franchise, has looked into the face of the non believer, thrown up the horns and released a masterpiece that may just be the Sgt. Pepper of the genre.
