The host you love the most is back with his affable grin, shiny suits and the sense of humour you love to hate. Yes that’s right, Buzz is back for another round in Buzz! The Pop Quiz. It’s the sixth release in the series and tests your knowledge of music, dating as far back as the early nineties, when MC Hammer pants were alive and well.

Buzz has been around for a while now, and having reviewed a few of them already I can assure you it doesn't get any easier. This is mainly because, apart from the theme, a large part of the game remains the same every time. A bit like SingStar until the guys at Sony released the PS3 version and reignited a dying flame.

Surely though, Buzz will not fall into the same trap, with his namesake heading the show and his lovely assistant by his side?

Unfortunately, his jokes are getting a bit old and most of the time you can bypass the assistant, so the outlook is pretty dim from the get go.

If you're reading this you probably already know what Buzz is all about and what you need to do. So what do we say about a game that we have seen before and played? I guess the obvious one is to mention the theme, although most of you would remember that Buzz has released already The Music Quiz, so there's really nothing unique here.

The difference, although it’s a very small difference, is that Buzz! The Pop Quiz covers more of a specific period, from about the early nineties. This is a bit of a shame as most Buzz releases spanned a few generations allowing young and old to partake in something which puts everyone - gamers and non-gamers alike - on an even playing field. It does boast over 5000 questions that include 800 odd music tracks, 50 pop videos and 100+ images and album covers, but the value added is little when no one can answer any of the questions.

Moving into the rounds, well it’s sad to say that again not much has changed. You do have the odd new round thrown in like "Pop Picker", where you choose a subject and who gets to answer it, and "Video Stars", where you watch a video and answer questions based on it. It’s nothing too exciting and probably not enough to reignite the glory days.

So is there anything worthwhile about the latest release? Well yes, and no. 'Yes' if you have not played Buzz before and are aged around the late 20’s to mid 30’s, or you are a complete music freak, then you would like what this has to offer and will experience what many have already been through. And 'no' if you are any age and have played Buzz previously.

It’s a shame really, as Buzz has had a huge following since its initial release. But now it seems to have taken a bit of a dive with lacklustre rounds, stages that look like they have only just been put up, and a tendency to offer clones of previous releases on the pretence that they're new. Buzz! Pop Quiz is just too similar to Buzz! The Music Quiz.

Buzz! The Pop Quiz feels like a game quickly thrown together to make a quick dollar. The feeling was getting a bit stronger as each release hit the shelves, but I think with the release of The Pop Quiz, Buzz has finally been pushed over the edge. Perhaps it's time to nudge Buzz onto the PS3 and hope he can rise to the occasion, as SingStar did when it made its début on PS3.

But for now, dare I say it... the buzz has gone.
