The Syphon Filter series of games go way back to 1999. There have been several releases since the original Syphon Filter leading up to the latest release for PSP, Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror. Syphon Filter is one of those games with a chequered history so Sony will be looking to put things right with this release for the PSP.

And just like the previous games, you get to play, once again, as Gabe Logan, the gadget king of Spy’s that even 007 would envy. Joining you in this adventure is your trusty side-kick from previous games, Lian Xing. Starting off in the cold, bleak terrain of Alaska, you're on a mission to infiltrate an oil refinery. The oil refinery is about to be blown to smithereens and you’ve been given the task to stop the refinery from being destroyed.

We have to say it; Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror looks awesome on the PSP. Given the fact that the past few games haven’t really delivered to expectation, it’s good to see the next game in the Syphon Filter series pack a punch. Smooth and detailed animation can make all the difference. And the best thing about it is that you can now take the game anywhere. The cut scenes are also a nice addition to this game. The voice acting is top-notch and the dialogue doesn’t seem scripted or cheesy.

When starting up the game, you have the option to choose between the story mode or the tutorial which takes you through the basics of the game like movement and weapons training. We recommend doing the tutorial if you're new to the game, and if not, just jump straight in!

Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror is all about stealth and of course, weapons. There is a superb choice of weapons in Syphon Filter; in fact, the game boasts 60 different types of weapons! The official website goes through each one for those of you who really want a low down on the detail. We still can’t get seem to get past the fact that there are three different types of goggles in the game! Suffice to say that when it comes to weapons, this game doesn’t muck around and if you like a game that pays attention to detail in this area, you will love Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror. The bottom line is that Gabe may have his work cut out for him but when it comes to doing the spy thing and taking care of business, nobody comes more equipped than Gabe Logan.
