SingStar Rock Ballads review

Within the past few months we’ve seen a few titles, Pop Hits and 90's to name a few, released to the SingStar series on PS2. These recent releases see the series go to double figures and it shows no sign of slowing down with the latest addition of SingStar, Rock Ballads.

If you’ve been living under a rock somewhere and are not sure what SingStar is about, well, to put it simply, it's karaoke on PS2. Instead of living in fear of being embarrassed at a party, SingStar lets you belt out a few tunes in the comfort of your own home. Or if you love karaoke then you can sing to your heart's content whenever you want.

Having reviewed some of SingStar’s recent releases makes it a bit difficult to talk about SingStar Ballads. It's unlike your normal sequel where maybe a few features are added and the story line progresses: Rock Ballads adds nothing new beyond the music, but that’s not to say that it will crash and burn. The SingStar series has seen much success across many of its titles released. Its success has probably been due to the fact that not much skill really is required, with the added bonus of taking the karaoke out of the bar and putting it in front of friends and family without having to hire a room.

SingStar Rock Ballads

Since its initial release in the 1990s, SingStar on PS2 has been a party favourite enjoyed by many. Enjoyed so much that SingStar has nine titles to the series with the most recent being 90's and Pop Hits, which were both released only a few weeks apart. Now the folks at Sony are going for round ten with the soon to be released SingStar: Rock Ballads.

Set for release at the end of the month, Rock Ballads features hits spanning the 80s where big hair dos, tie-dye and peace symbol chains were in, to some of today’s music such as the likes of Avril Lavigne. It’s a diverse selection of music which will attract all ages and remind older ones of way back when when leg warmers were a fashion accessory.

Although Rock Ballads is the tenth title to the series, it unfortunately does not introduce anything new apart form a new track list, so it's difficult to point out any great new features. The SingStar series has had some new features added in along the way but it is largely the same as when it was first released. But like previous releases, this will not deter anyone from picking up the mic and rocking to the beats of Rock Ballads.
