Given the current state of global affairs - and the worrisome knowledge that the Doomsday Clock now reads five minutes to midnight, it is kind of reassuring to think that in the 37th Century there will still be enough humans around to wage war on each other – and that the theatre of conflict will have expanded to encompass an entire galaxy. It's not all doom and gloom after all!

Due for release here on 23rd February, Gas Powered Games’ long awaited RTS, Supreme Commander, will put players in charge of one of three warring human factions, as they battle it out for ultimate supremacy on a scale that really has to be seen to be believed.

You’ll be able to zoom seamlessly in and out of the maps to either issue tactical decisions or to see how your troops are faring in individual skirmishes – be they on land, sea or in the air. The battlegrounds are enormous and there can be hundreds of units in any given battle, from the smaller, cheaply built assault bots to colossal experimental behemoths with some truly frightening firepower.

Each of the factions features a unique set of factory built units at varying tech levels. The UEF (United Earth Federation), with its more traditional units looks to be a good choice for starters. Then we have the sinister-looking cybernetics of the Cybrans, and the alien-influenced technology employed by the Aeons. All of which you can check out, along with a potted history and other useful game-related info, at the official site.

From what we’ve seen of the game so far - we've had it demonstrated to us but not been able to play it - the visuals are nothing short of jaw dropping. Whether you choose to undertake the single-player campaign or engage in some multiplayer faction crushing action, the pace and sheer scope of Supreme Commander will undoubtedly keep even the most accomplished strategist on their toes. We say bring it on!

Ahead of the release, Gameplanet and Monaco Corporation are providing the chance for you to play the game next week - email [email protected] if you would like to visit the New Zealand distributor for a hands-on session on 7th or 8th February in Auckland.
