Blizzard’s latest World of Warcraft expansion, Cataclysm, sold 3.3 million copies in 24 hours, says the developer. The figure makes Cataclysm the fastest-selling PC game of all time.
In taking first place, Cataclysm has dethroned World of Warcraft’s previous expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, which sold 2.8 million copies on the day of its release, 14th November 2008.
The news rounds out a very successful year for Blizzard who also released StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty in July. The sci-fi real-time strategy title sold 1.5 million in 48 hours, making it the fastest selling strategy game of all time.
