The game formerly known as Shogun 2: Total War is now Total War: Shogun 2. The change coincides with the finalisation of the game’s box art.

SEGA says the rebranding exercise is intended to make it clearer that the Total War games are a single series.

We can’t imagine anyone struggling to understand that Total War is a series, but we have every confidence that SEGA’s marketing team can create a compelling PowerPoint presentation.

Speaking with website Eurogamer, a SEGA spokesperson said, “Both Creative Assembly and SEGA have intended to invert the Total War naming convention for some time.

“The Total War series of games spans over 10 years of titles. We wanted to identify all of these as one series using a more obvious naming convention for players.

The spokesperson added, “Revealing the new title with the Shogun 2 box art was the opportune time to do so.”
