Fallout 4 is getting a new mod from a rather unlikely source: Nvidia.

The graphics manufacturer has unveiled Vault 1080, a mod that focuses on Nvidia's horizon-based ambient occlusion-plus (HBAO+) technology to enhance the visuals of Fallout 4 with volumetric lighting and more realistic shadows.

Developed by Nvidia LightSpeed Studios, Vault 1080 will feature an hourlong quest that will send players into the titular vault.

Players will venture through a hostile marshland to a vault hidden under an abandoned church, where they'll find a congregation of dwellers that have embraced darkness and sickness in order to survive.

The truth of this vault can only be discovered by descending through a whole lot of fearful mystery, after which players can decide whether these occupants deserve salvation – or not.

Lightspeed Studio has previously focused on remastering and remaking classic PC games for Android and Nvidia Shield, including Half-Life 2, Portal, and Doom 3: BFG.

Vault 1080 will release for the PC version of Fallout 4 this Friday (September 2).
