The Australian Classification Board has reclassified Watch Dogs R18+ after the game was resubmitted by Ubisoft.

The game was originally rated MA15+, and was deemed to contain "strong impact" themes and violence, "moderate impact" language, nudity and sex, and "mild impact" drug use. Subsequent to reclassification, only nudity and language have been determined to be of "moderate impact" to audiences. All other categories have been reclassified upwards.

Drug use has undergone the largest shift, from "mild impact" to "strong impact", and violence is now rated at the top end of the scale, at "high impact".

VG247 reports that it is unable to find current PEGI or ESRB ratings for Watch Dogs in Europe and North America, respectively. The website speculates that this may be due to the game being reclassified in those territories.

In August, Watch Dogs was rated R18 in New Zealand. We've contacted Ubisoft to inquire as to why the game was resubmitted in Australia, and whether it will be resubmitted in New Zealand.

Watch Dogs will be available on May 27 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Ubisoft has recently cut a new trailer that sets up the game's story.
