Defiance the game has launched just ahead of its tie-in TV show’s first episode airing.
The ambitious game is out now for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Windows PC, while the show will premiere in Australia on Thursday April 18 at 9:30pm EST on the SF channel.
In Defiance, players take on the role of an Ark Hunter and scour a transformed Earth in search of alien technology.
According to publisher Namco Bandai, each ark hunter can play to their strengths, customising special abilities as well as upgrading a huge variety of both modern and alien weaponry that is at their disposal.
“Players can hunt alone or with others as they engage in massive co-op boss battles and fierce multiplayer combat known as Shadow War, in addition to taking on dynamic missions in campaign mode while exploring this constantly evolving world,” it said.
Meanwhile, Defiance the TV show comes from the minds behind Battlestar Galactica and Caprica.
“For the first time on SF, Australian audiences will be transformed from passive viewers to active participants, as they join tens of thousands of other fans exploring an advanced online world that is directly connected to the action on-screen”, said SF channel CEO Peter Hudson.
The show’s first season will run for 13 episodes.
“The dramatic tapestry of the series and intense action of the game will exist in a single universe where their respective narratives will inform one another and evolve together into one overall story,” said Namco.
Defiance was developed by Rift studio Trion Worlds.
