When it comes to dynamic, open world, sandbox-style games, Grand Theft Auto is the first name that springs to most people's minds.

Mention controversy, and again, Grand Theft Auto pops to mind.

The developers at Volition wanted to change this with Saints Row 2. They proved with the original Saints Row that they could make a solid sandbox action title, and in fact made it shine in areas where Grand Theft Auto was lacking. Saints Row 2 promised to improve on all things Saints Row and provide an overall deeper experience, and so we were curious to see if it lived up to expectations.

The 1st October was a pretty good day all round. The first phase of tax-cuts came in, but much more importantly we were invited to an exclusive look at Saints Row 2.

Take 2 and Volition have put an enormous amount of effort into making sure we all know its coming, and that it's bigger and badder than ever.

Arriving in a somewhat dodgy looking nightclub underneath a strip club on Customs St, our first thought was: is this really the right place? Is this a trick? However, upon entering the room we were greeted by a bunch of gorgeous looking women wearing Saints Row 2 t-shirts and playing the game. No, this was definitely the right place. Thanks to the great people at THQ New Zealand we had an open bar, and enough pizza to feed a small African nation.

Saints Row 2 co-op trailer released

THQ has released a new trailer for Saints Row 2 showing the multiplayer co-op aspects of this third-person action game.

Australasia to get exclusive Saints Row 2 content

With the upcoming release on October 17th of Saints Row 2, THQ have announced details of the Collector’s Editions/Packs, featuring content exclusive to Australia and New Zealand.

The Xbox 360 Collector’s Edition, PC Collector’s Edition and PS3 Collector’s Pack will be available from selected retailers, including GP Store, JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Dick Smith Electronics and most independent games retailers.

THQ has released a new trailer for Saints Row 2, currently in development for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC platforms.

Developed by THQ’s critically acclaimed internal studio Volition, Inc. using their proprietary open-world engine, Saints Row 2 will offer vastly expanded customization options, a totally transformed and expanded city of Stilwater, all new vehicles, sandbox tools and toys as well as both online co-op and competitive multiplayer. THQ has released a new video dev diary for Saints Row 2, currently under development and expected to be released in October this year.

THQ's in-house developers Volition are using their proprietary open-world engine to render Saints Row 2, and have promised vastly expanded customization options, a totally transformed and expanded city of Stilwater, all new vehicles, sandbox tools and toys as well as both online co-op and competitive multiplayer.

Saints Row 2 uncensored in Australia

GamePlayer in Australia have reported that Saints Row 2 has been officially rated by the OFLC as MA15+, strong violence, sexual references and coarse language.

Furthermore, THQ have confirmed that the full uncut version was submitted for rating, and Aussie gamers will be playing the same version upon release as the rest of the world. The rest of the world primarily comprised of countries with practical rating systems for games, that is.

With the recent report that Fallout 3 has been restricted, it's about time Australia had some good gaming news!

With Grand Theft Auto IV clocking up the highest ever sales for a video game on its day one, THQ and Volition are obviously keen to take a slice of the pie with Saints Row 2 expected to ship in October.

They've just released a new trailer showing the game's storyline; as far as we can tell it involves gangs and lots of violence.

THQ has released a new trailer from Saints Row 2, a third-person action game and sequel to Saints Row, currently under development for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Developers Volition have promised expanded customization options, a totally transformed and expanded city of Stilwater, all new vehicles, sandbox tools and toys as well as both online co-op and competitive multiplayer.

When asked about the multiplayer aspect of Saints Row 2 recently, Volition and THQ stated they have "learned a lot from the first game and won't be making any of the same mistakes again"
