2K Games has announced XCOM: Enemy Unknown, an action strategy title by Firaxis Games.

In XCOM: Enemy Unknown, players will take control of a paramilitary organisation called XCOM and defend Earth against a global alien invasion. They will need to manage resources, advance technology, and command forces in combat.

2K is also working on a first-person shooter reboot of the classic franchise, called simply XCOM. XCOM: Enemy Unknown is to be truer to the original X-COM, released in 1993.

Firaxis Games is best known as the creator of the Civilization series.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is coming to PC and consoles this year.
