In addition to revealing its third quarter earnings today, publisher Electronic Arts has said that BioWare’s MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic will be released this year.

Last week, sources cited by games industry website MCV reported that the game is to be released in September.

In addition to this 2011 commitment, EA CEO John Riccitiello confirmed that the company had incurred “significant” costs in developing the game.

Riccitiello also took a moment to refute the “falsehoods” of a former EA employee who called the MMO “a joke” and claimed the publisher had spent more than $300 million on the game.
