BioShock Infinite will no longer be released this year

The release date for BioShock Infinite has been date pushed forward to February 26, 2013.

The extra development time will greatly benefit the game – much as a release date extension did for the original BioShock – said BioShock creator Ken Levine.

“When we announced the release date of BioShock Infinite in March, we felt pretty good about the timing. Since then, we've come to realise that some specific tweaks and improvements will make Infinite into something even more extraordinary.

BioShock Infinite dated

2K Games has announced that BioShock Infinite will be released on October 19, 2012 for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

Currently in development at Irrational Games, the first-person shooter places players in the role of Booker DeWitt, a hard-bitten former Pinkerton agent attempting to escape the sky-city environment of Columbia.

“After BioShock, we had a vision for a follow up that dwarfed the original in scope and ambition,” states Ken Levine, Creative Director of Irrational Games.

BioShock: Infinite gets ‘1999 Mode’

BioShock: Infinite will come with a difficultly mode called “1999”, Irrational Games has announced.

The unique “hard mode” will include a feature where your character’s choices have “irreversible implications”, says the developer.

The mode has been created in response to fan feedback. The studio says it had a “hunch” about including such a mode, but the community’s voice ensured its implementation.

Description: (hide)
Originally conceived as a floating symbol of American ideals at a time when the United States was emerging as a world power, Columbia is dispatched to distant shores with great fanfare by a captivated public. What begins as a brand new endeavor of hope turns drastically wrong as the city soon disappears into the clouds to whereabouts unknown.

The player assumes the role of former Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt, sent to the lost city to rescue Elizabeth, a young woman imprisoned there since childhood. He develops a relationship with Elizabeth, augmenting his abilities with hers so the pair may escape from a city that is literally falling from the sky. DeWitt must learn to fight foes in high-speed Sky-Line battles, engage in combat both indoors and amongst the clouds, and harness the power of dozens of new weapons and abilities.
