Cryptic Studios and Atari have announced Neverwinter, a PC-exclusive RPG based on Dungeons & Dragons, and due in 2011.
In the game, players will be able to select one of five classes and team up with other players or AI allies to do battle in the city of Neverwinter.
“Once a bustling location, Neverwinter has faced a great many disasters in the past hundred years,” reads the press release.
“Rule of the city remains unclear following the unfortunate demise of the last Lord of Neverwinter and factions still battle for dominance after the all-consuming Spellplague took a high toll on the population. Even Neverwinter’s dead are beginning to rise from their graves and march upon the city they once called home.”
The game will form part of a multiplatform event that includes the launch of the first book in a new fantasy trilogy by R.A. Salvatore and a tabletop RPG by Wizards of the Coast.
The first book in the trilogy, entitled Gauntlgrym, comes out on the 5th of October this year and previews the settings, characters and monsters that will appear in the videogame.
