Fox blamed for poor Avatar game sales

Avatar producer Jon Landau has pinned the blame on Fox for the poor sales of Ubisoft’s game adaptation for the blockbuster movie.

Speaking to Wired magazine after the 3D Gaming Summit in Los Angeles, Landau said that filmmakers need to work more closely with game developers to ensure both quality and appropriate marketing.

“[Developing these games] can’t be studio-driven,” Landau said. “It has to be filmmaker-driven. I think [game companies] need to go find the Jim Camerons, Steven Spielbergs and Peter Jacksons of the world and develop the relationships with them.”

Avatar demo released

A playable demo for the PC version of James Cameron's Avatar: The Game has been released.

Weighing in at 1.6GB, this demo will take you deep into the heart of Pandora, an alien planet that is beyond imagination. You can download it now from GP Downloads.

This demo includes a feature that allows you to play the game in 3D. Only certain televisions that are stereoscopic enabled can play this 3D option. For more information, check out the official site.

Luc Duchaine, Senior International Brand Manager at Ubisoft Montreal.

GP: So lets start with who you are and what do you do for Ubisoft?

Luc: My name is Luc Duchaine and I am the Senior International Brand Manager for Avatar at the Montreal studio. So I have been on the project for two years now. I have been working on the game itself, also on the film.

GP: Was Avatar ever going to be anything other than a third-person shooter?

Ubisoft has released the first gameplay trailer from James Cameron's Avatar: The Game. Due to ship in December, the game will take you deep into the heart of Pandora, an alien planet that is beyond imagination.

Eight new screenshots of James Cameron's Avatar: The Game have been released at GamesCom in Germany.
