I'm curiously optimistic about this one from Paradox - although it's hard to see whether the focus is on military or trading. Check out the trailer here.
I like the look of the deck-level combat near the end of that trailer. Plus the micromanagement of the economies.. hmm, we'll definitely have to score a copy for review I think.
The company's real name was the Dutch East India Company.
There were several companies from different countries (English, Dutch, French etc) using the name "East India Company" (i.e. "English East India Company", "Dutch East India Company" [VOC in Dutch], "French East India Company" [CFI in French]).
You can play as Britain, France, The Netherlands, Portugal, Denmark, Sweden, Italy or Spain in the game.
As Egor The Terrible says, most of them had a similar name. There was even a New Zealand Company. Interestingly, they were a fascinating example of private armies run amok.

Yeah, the New Zealand Company was not an EIC though (in case anyone is confused here). It was a private British company set up to colonise NZ. It did develop ambitions of governance akin to the EIC's though.
