Game pulled in Sweden amid child porn accusations

Dead or Alive: Dimensions for the Nintendo 3DS has been pulled in Sweden amid accusations that it violates that country’s child pornography laws.

The game’s Swedish distributor, Bergsala, cancelled the game's local release without fighting the charges.

In a joint statement, Nintendo Europe and Bergsala told Eurogamer Sweden, “Nintendo of Europe have decided not to release the game in Sweden, for various reasons. However, they do not want to list any details regarding their decision.

“We are sorry for how this impacts the Swedish fans of Dead or Alive. Thankfully, it's extremely unusual that these things happen.”

According to Eurogamer, the issue arises from Dead or Alive: Dimensions’ Figure Mode, in which scantily-clad characters can be "photographed" from any angle including, for example, between their legs. Three female characters in the game are under the age of 18.

A forum user raised the child pornography issue. He or she took the evidence to Swedish police who dismissed the case, stating that underage girls in thongs are not considered to be pornographic images.

I've never played the game. Are the characters real? Because I didn't think computer generated content was subject to such laws?

Apparently many governments can't tell the difference between real life and fiction because there are quite a few countries where not only computer generated content, but any depiction (drawings etc) also fall under the same legislation as the real deal.

Heres an idea, just change the age of the characters in question. They shouldn't be under 18 to begin with.

This. They don't really look under 18. I can't think of any non-creepy reason they would want to list their ages as 16-17 anyway?

It's probably because the legal age of consent in Japan is 13 (depends on the jurisdiction though as far as I understand), so for them having a 16-17 y/o is as dodgy as NZ having an 18 y/o in the same situation.
I guess it's their mistake if they didn't realize most other countries see under 18 as CP.

Or is there some sort of totally nudity in the game ?

Kasumi and Ayane used be aged "XX" in the copy of DOA2 that I had. I didn't find out their true ages until I looked it up on the web years later.

TBH i don't know why this is news.... Nintendo of Europe just thought right we ain't gona release it here because we don't want any press bad, good or otherwise.
