Halo dev has no interest in adding battle royale

Halo dev has no interest in adding battle royale

343 Industries' Jeff Easterling and James Bachici, two of the developers behind Halo recently held a 343 Mixer social stream and were asked if a battle royale mode would make it's way in to the recently announced Halo Infinite. "I'll tell you right now, the only BR we're really interested in is Battle Rifle." replied Easterling.

Recent titles like PUBG and Fortnite have propelled the battle royale genre to unprecedented heights with Fortnite in particular becoming somewhat of a cultural phenomenon. While major studios like EA and Activision recently announced that a battle royale mode would make it's way in to their next respective games, it's nice to see 343 sticking to their guns and not shoehorning in the mode due to it being the biggest craze in gaming right now.

343 Industries announced Halo Infinite at E3 this year and stated that it would be running on the new internally created Slipspace Engine. Fans expressed their disappointment at the lack of Master Chief game time in the last Halo. 343 has stated that they've heard these complaints "Loud and clear" and that Halo Infinite will bring the focus back to Master Chief's story following the events of Halo Guardians.

Halo Infinite is also set to showcase a brand new art style, taking inspiration from some of the "most iconic and historic parts of the Halo franchise" as well as player feedback.

The Culling 2 removed from sale after one week

In a move I don't think I've ever witnessed in the gaming industry, developer Xaviant is shutting down The Culling 2 just eight days after launch. The developer is currently contacting Valve, Sony and Microsoft to get affected players a refund for the latest game to enter the battle royale genre.

In a video posted on Xaiant's YouTube channel, Josh Van Veld, director of ops issued an apology to fans for the disastrous launch of The Culling 2 last week, stating “one thing that has emerged very clearly for us is that The Culling 2 was not a game that you asked for, and it’s not the game that you expected as a worthy successor to The Culling.” Fan outrage and low user reviews on Steam criticized the developer for abandoning the original game and making changes that went against what players loved about the game, which in turn led to Xaviant pulling the plug.

Xaviant will instead now focus on returning to the day-one build of The Culling, hoping to regain some of the lost player base. This version of The Culling will arrive on Xaviant's test servers this week and will allow players to download the original game free of charge.

No Man's Sky NEXT Update brings the game closer to the initial vision

No Man's Sky NEXT Update brings the game closer to the initial vision

It's no secret that Hello Games' No Man's Sky is one of the most divisive games of the generation. Prior to it's release in 2016, the game reached monumental levels of hype with gamers. For many of us, it looked like it would be the game we'd dreamt of playing for most of our gaming years.

Sadly the game did not really live up to expectations. In our review we gave the game a 6/10 and stated "No Man's Sky was never going to live up to the hype, but sadly even those with tempered expectations are likely to be somewhat disappointed. It is by no means a terrible game, it just feels unfinished and empty."

Followed by mostly mediocre reviews and angry outspoken fans, it wouldn't have been a surprise if Sean Murray and Hello Games had disappeared from the gaming world entirely. Thankfully, Hello Games stuck around and doubled down on its efforts to expand on No Man's Sky and bring the game closer to what many hoped it would be from the beginning.

With several big changes already implemented, No Man's Sky is definitely not the shell of a game it was nearly two years ago. The upcoming addition of the game's Next Update, finally brings full multiplayer and allows you to team up with fellow explorers so the long journey doesn't feel quite so lonely.

Another great addition in the Next update is the option to now play the game in a third person view. This, combined with being able to customise your own character, build massive shelters with friends and command a battalion of freighters should be more than enough to pique players interest once again.

Shadow of War is now free of Microtransactions

As was promised in April, developer Monolith has today deployed a patch that completely removes microtransactions from Middle-Earth: Shadow of War.

“While purchasing Orcs in the Market is more immediate and provides additional player options, we have come to realize that providing this choice risked undermining the heart of our game, the Nemesis System,” the studio said at the time.

While sales figures have not been released, Kotaku surmises that the saw a steep drop off sales post-release, likely due to a backlash from players regarding the inclusion of microtransactions.

Nathan Fillion went and made an Uncharted fan film

If you're one of the many that's ever thought "hey, Nathan Fillion would make an awesome Nathan Drake from Uncharted", you've just struck gold.

While the official movie seems to be stuck in development hell, with the latest version starring Tom Holland as young Drake, Fillion and director Allan Ungar have partnered to create a fifteen minute fan film.

Fillion hinted at something Uncharted late last week, and delivered this morning with short film available on YouTube.
