Here’s a roundup of today’s news found elsewhere on the internet:
Guerrilla: KZ3 pushing PS3 to max (eurogamer) - Guerrilla Games boss Hermen Hulst believes Killzone 3 pushes the PlayStation 3 hardware to capacity.
"We're pushing 100 per cent right now," Hulst told VG247. "You see, there's steam coming out of the machine, almost. All the stuff that we're squeezing, it's got everything to do with the scale and the environments and the action that you're seeing on the screen right now.
"As I was talking about earlier in the presentation, we're having a footprint of a level that's ten times bigger than the average Killzone 2 level. Killzone 2 was not a small game, but that was as far as we could push it back then.
"We're going way overboard this time around," he added, "and I think we're reaching the kind of maximum that we can do. But we always do that. We always find a way to go above and beyond."
Guerrilla Games will benefit from PS3 developer tools used by other first-party Sony studios Sony Santa Monica (God of War III) and Naughty Dog (Uncharted 2).
Killzone 3 will be released sometime next year and was unveiled to the world yesterday.
The Witcher 2 still heading to console (eurogamer) - CD Projekt has quashed rumours that console versions of The Witcher 2 have been scrapped.
Speculation swirled out of news that Namco Bandai had signed as the PC game's European distributor - the point being that no console versions were mentioned.
"CD Projekt always wanted and still plans to develop The Witcher 2 on consoles - nothing has changed," tweeted the company.
Alek Pakulski, community manager, added: "There are some rumours about us cancelling the console versions. That's just wrong, guys!"
Nevertheless, CD Projekt has not confirmed a date for the console versions of the game; a simultaneous ship with PC in 2011 looks unlikely.
Sony "supportive" of Insomniac's multiformat future (gamesindustry.biz) - Insomniac CEO Ted Price has said that Sony is supportive of the developers decision to work on the Xbox 360, and the studio remains on very good terms with the platform holder despite going multiformat after over 15 years of working exclusively on Sony hardware.
Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Price said the relationship between the two is the strongest it's ever been, but the company needs to expand beyond Sony formats to reach as many players as possible.
"Sony is well aware of what we've been doing and we talked to them early about our goals to go multiplatform," said Price in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz. "For us it's an important business decision we had to make.
"Sony has been incredibly supportive and it's important to note we continue to work with Sony and our relationship with them is more important than ever."
Insomniac said today it is working on a new gaming franchise to be published by EA Partners, the division of Electronic Arts that recently set up a new studio with ex-Infinity Ward developers Jason West and Vince Zampella.
David DeMartini, general manager of EA Partners, pointed out that the new deal will not affect any of the work Insomniac continues to do for Sony – a partnership that has so far seen the combined sales of over 35 million games in the Resistance, Ratchet & Clank and Spyro franchises.
"Sony is a valued partner of EA and a valued partner of Insomniac and the studio isn't stopping its work on its other incredible franchises which happen to be released on the Sony platforms. It's a win-win for everybody in this relationship," he added.
Price refused to shed any light on how long Insomniac has been exploring the Xbox 360 hardware and software, but was confident that it would not require a significant shift of the development practices already in place at the studio.
"We still embrace the same production philosophies that have allowed us to release games just about every year since our inception. We're obviously developing new technology to support the Xbox 360," he offered.
Front Mission Evolved shoots for September 14 release (joystiq) - Spring has turned to fall for Front MIssion Evolved, as Square Enix has announced the game will launch on September 14. The latest entry takes the SRPG franchise into a new direction: third-person shooter. Double Helix, of Silent Hill: Homecoming fame, is developing. Square Enix also announced that the PC version will be playable in stereoscopic 3D, which effectively swaps out the gameplay depth from the strategy games for visual depth.
It's great we finally have a solid release date, Square Enix, but you probably should've checked the calendar before deciding on September 14. Just saying!
