Taupo Motorsport Park reverberated yesterday to the sound of modified vehicles, as car enthusiasts from GP Forums took to the track in an effort to push their cars, and driving skills, to the limit.
Over twenty forum regulars paid to hire the track for a day, with a wide range of marques represented - from Ford to Nissan, Toyota to Porsche, and even a Westfield XTR2! Fortunately, the weather was on its best behaviour, allowing some high-speed runs and seriously quick times.
The track in Taupo is the same one used for the New Zealand leg of the international A1 Grand Prix.
"Everyone had a blast," said Gameplanet director Simon Garner, who was at the track racing. "We've had six track days now and every time it's a fantastic, adrenaline-fueled day for all who attend." Nobody had any accidents, but "a few people spun off the track a few times, myself included."
Although times will be taken from video footage recorded on the day, the event is not a race. Cars are let onto the track individually with a 15 second gap between them, and the idea is just to have fun testing your car's limits in a safe environment.
"A big thank you goes to user 'hadees' for organising the event and to all the people who volunteered to help with marshalling on the day," Simon said.
The photos thread on GP Forums will be updated as more pics are uploaded, but in the meantime you can check out some of the photos below.
Those interested in joining future track events should keep an eye on the GP Track Day forum.
