Activision today announced its support for Sony's PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld, and said it is currently developing two games that it expects to be launch titles for the platform in the US, Spider-Man 2 and Tony Hawk's Underground 2.
The PSP is "an exciting new platform that combines processing power with a sleek new look that will appeal to an older demographic," said Activision president Kathy Vrabeck in a statement. "By matching our top brands like Tony Hawk's Underground 2 and Spider-Man 2 with the new entertainment device, we are able to broaden our consumer base and leverage our franchises into new areas."
Sony has yet to set a launch date for the handheld console itself, although it's expected to compete with the Nintendo DS. Nintendo's new handheld is scheduled for release late November, and Activision will also be showing a Nintendo DS version of Spider-Man 2 at that device's launch.
