A recent patent filed by Sony Interactive Entertainment America suggest that the company may have plans to build a controller with touchscreen functionality.

Revealed by the folks at DualShockers, this new design patent comes at an interesting time. It seems highly unlikely that we would see any major revision of the PlayStation 4's controller design this late in the consoles life, so my money is on this being a potential idea for the inevitable PlayStation 5.

The idea of a controller with a touchscreen is nothing new, but it does feel like the natural evolution for the DualShock 4 and its touchpad.

I'm not sure how I feel about having a second screen to look at on my controller. I do worry that having to look down constantly would distract from the game a bit too much. I'm personally hoping Sony uses this more as a new way to handle remote play.

Do you think a controller with a touchscreen would help or hinder the overall experience? Let me know in the comments below!
