Activision has officially unveiled Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, with no fewer than six trailers.

As was rumoured in April, there is no campaign mode for the first time in Call of Duty history. Instead, there are solo trials missions, and you can play Zombies mode with bots.

As was also suggested months ago, there is a battle royale mode. It is called Blackout, and includes famous characters from Black Ops series and the original Zombies mode, as well as air, sea and land vehicles.

It’s not clear what the Blackout player limit will be, but Treyarch did divulge that the mode’s map is CoD’s biggest ever, 1500 times larger than Nuketown.

According to Treyarch, Blackout combines Black Ops' signature fast, fluid, guns-up combat, with fierce new levels of survival competition across iconic Black Ops settings re-imagined at a colossal scale.

“Blackout is an experience unlike any other game or mode in Call of Duty history, where players will have to scavenge, strategise, compete and survive to win,” the studio said.

The PC version of the game is in development at Activision studio Beenox, and will be exclusive to Blizzard's

It has the largest ever PC development team CoD has ever seen working on it, and will feature an uncapped framerate, 4K resolution and HDR, support for ultra-wide monitors, and the ability for players to extensively customise the performance and visual quality for their specific hardware.

“In addition, Treyarch and Beenox worked closely with the team at Blizzard to incorporate's social systems, security, and server stability into Black Ops 4,” said Activision.

Multiplayer won’t feature wall-running, thrust jumps, or automatic health regeneration, but it does have a dedicated heal button, which Treyarch said is as important to the combat loop as reloading.

The series’ signature Pick 10 customisation system is back, and Activision is promising that Black Ops 4 will go deeper than ever into the fiction of multiplayer, allowing players to learn who Specialists are, why they exist, and what battles they fight together.

Black Ops 4 features a combination of new and returning Specialists, each with their own unique weapons, equipment and playstyles.

Zombies has expanded into three experiences called IX, Voyage of Despair and Blood of the Dead.

It promises a brand new storyline, new characters, a nefarious new enemy, the most customisation in Zombies yet, and new community challenges and social systems.

“Additionally, Zombie Rush is a brand new mode that streamlines the gameplay experience, introducing enticing new challenges to grizzled veterans, while creating a whole new tempo of gameplay for newcomers," said Activision.
