A new Serious Sam title will be unveiled at this year’s E3, publisher Devolver Digital has announced.

The light-hearted but action heavy series is inspired by the wave of ‘90s 3D shooters that followed Doom, like Duke Nukem and Shadow Warrior.

Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass is promising full-throttle action, massive hordes of enemies, and an explosive array of weapons.

It will be the first core Serious Sam title since 2011’s Serious Sam 3: BFE.

Croteam released the first Serious Sam in 2001, and since then the first two games have been remastered, and also released for VR.

The Croatian studio has stuck with the series since then, only pausing once to release one of the best puzzle games of all time, The Talos Principle, in 2014.

Over the years, Croteam has licenced several indie takes on Serious Sam, including several side-scrolling Serious Sam platformers, and even a turn-based Serious Sam RPG.
