One of the most celebrated RPGs ever is coming to console.
Bandai Namco Entertainment announced today that it is bringing Larian Studios’ Divinity: Original Sin II to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 this August.
Divinity: Original Sin II gives players the freedom of a sandbox RPG encouraging improvisation and experimentation with rules made to be bent rather than followed.
The game takes place in the world of Rivellon where players can go anywhere, talk to anyone (living, dead, or non-human) and fully interact with the game world like no other RPG. It features six unique origin characters with full-fledged backstories, personalities and questlines.
Gameplanet reviewer Chris Brown declared the PC version of Original Sin II “the best game I have played this millennium”.
“What Larian has achieved here cannot be overstated,” he wrote in his review last September.
“This is the pinnacle of video game role playing. An epic story filled with personality, adventure, and depth. A combat system that is second to none. More ways to play and progress as you see fit than any RPG I can think of. All found in a world brimming with discovery, nuance, and freedom of choice.”
Console players diving into the world of Divinity: Original Sin II for the first time will enjoy a user interface tailored for console play in both four-player online co-op and two-player split-screen co-op modes.
Additional content updates and extra features will be announced leading to the game’s launch later this year.
“It was very important to us to have Divinity: Original Sin II distributed by a team that understands how to bring RPGs to a broad audience.” said Larian founder and CEO Swen Vincke.
“With Dark Souls and The Witcher, Bandai Namco Entertainment demonstrated they know how to do exactly that and so I’m very happy we’ll have their support.”
Development of Divinity: Original Sin II began with a successful Kickstarter campaign in August 2016, which raised more than US$2 million from more than 40,000 backers.
