The fifth core Battlefield game will see the franchise return to World War II, Venturebeat sources say.
Apparently, Battlefield V was previously known as "Battlefield 2" internally at EA, and will release later this year.
EA will supposedly announce the game soon.
Should these rumours be true, it will be the first time since 2009’s Battlefield 1943 that the series has visited WWII.
EA's 2016 WWI shooter Battlefield 1 sold faster than 2013's modern-era Battlefield 4, and cleared 25 million players last December.
Similarly, Activision's Call of Duty: WWII is the best-selling Call of Duty since the franchise peaked with Black Ops II in 2012.
Venturebeat's sources also shot down the recent rumours that DICE is working on Battlefield: Bad Company 3, and that it is set during the Vietnam War.
