US board game giant Fantasy Flight Games has opened a video game studio.
Fantasy Flight Interactive is run by former Human Head (Prey) CEO Tim Gerritsen, and it will both adapt the company's board games and create entirely new titles based on Fantasy Flight’s existing properties.
Fantasy Flight has dabbled in the digital before, notably with companion apps for board games including Arkham Horror Elder Sign: Omens, Star Wars: Dice, XCOM: The Board Game, BattleLore: Command, Road to Legend and Mansions of Madness.
However, the new studio will focus on games for Steam.
"We’re incredibly excited to be bringing Fantasy Flight Games’ best game properties to life as amazing video game experiences," said Gerritsen.
"Fantasy Flight Interactive is made up of developers who love both tabletop games and video games and we are striving to create games that capture the best aspects of both media to entertain our fans."
Fantasy Flight's board game repertoire features a number of high-profile titles, including Android: Netrunner, A Game of Thrones, Arkham Horror, Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game, Twilight Imperium, and Cosmic Encounter, among many others.
It is no stranger to video game to tabletop adaptations either, having published cardboard versions of Sid Meier's Civilization, Doom, and Gears of War, among others.
