Podquisition's Laura Kate Dale tweeted that the long-awaited Beyond Good & Evil 2 will be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch for 12 months, after which point it will come to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Expect an announcement this month, said Dale, who has been on the money with several other Switch leaks. It's all a bit reminiscent of another Ubisoft Montpellier title's exclusivity: Rayman Legends was supposed to be a Wii U exclusive, until fans went berserk and Ubisoft backed down.

Tomb Raider writer Rhianna Pratchett announced she is stepping away from the franchise. Crystal Dynamics said Pratchett was "instrumental in helping us find Lara's voice" in its highly regarded 2013 reboot. "I like to think we did some good things. Maybe shifted the gaming landscape a wee bit. And that feels damn good," tweeted Pratchett. Tomb Raider was nominated for a Writer's Guild award in 2013, and Rise of the Tomb Raider won that same honour two years later.

Nintendo's NES Classic Edition isn't officially getting any games beyond the 30 it ships with, but folks in Japan and Russia figured out how to load more games onto the tiny console. It's not clear how many games are compatible with the system's emulator, but there are already videos out there showing games including Mega Man, Super Mario Bros. 2, and more working on the retro console.

Superhero competitive fighting game Injustice 2 got a release date: May 16. It's coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Square Enix announced that Stormblood, the second expansion pack for Final Fantasy XIV, will launch in on June 20. It features a New Job (Red Mage), Beast Tribe, high-level raid, alliance raid, and theme song, among other things.

Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that it sold 6.2 million PS4s during the 2016 holiday season (21/11/2016 – 1/1/2017). As of January 1, more than 53.4 million PS4s had been sold worldwide.

Razer unveiled the world's first multi-monitor laptop, which it calls "Project Valerie". It features three built-in 17.3-inch 4K monitors equipped with G-Sync that automatically deploy. "There is no shortcoming in the way of performance in the face of its amazing portability and features," said the company.

A number of PC monitors supporting HDR were unveiled at CES, including efforts from AMD, ACER and ASUS, and Republic of Gamers.

Planet Coaster and Elite Dangerous studio Frontier Developments is suing Atari, claiming it's owed $2.2m in royalties for 2004's RollerCoaster Tycoon 3. "We have attempted to resolve this issue without legal action since April 2016. We have so far been denied our contractual right to audit by Atari, and we are unfortunately left with no other way to resolve our concerns," said Frontier chief operating officer David Walsh.

HTC unveiled the ViveTracker, a tracker peripheral that you stick to objects to bring them into the VR space courtesy of the Vive's LightHouse tracking system. HTC suggests it could be used on baseball bats, haptic gloves and more. "The Vive Tracker is the first step in growing an ecosystem of third-party accessories that will change how we interact with virtual experiences and provide consumers and businesses with an unlimited amount of content opportunities," it said.   

2K announced that Pavonis Interactive, the team behind "The Long War" (aka the best XCOM mod ever) as well as XCOM 2 PC content such as the “Alien Pack” and the “Perk” and “Laser Pack” mods is working on a Long War 2 mod for XCOM 2.

DayBreak Game Company announced that the plug will be pulled on EverQuest Landmark on February 22. It axed EverQuest Next almost a year ago because "it wasn't fun".
